DID YOU KNOW?

Wolves are very intelligent animals. They live in groups that are known as packs. They can have from 6 to 20 members in them at a time. Wolves hunt as a group, which makes it possible for them to take down large prey such as moose and elk. This type of kill helps to ensure there is plenty of food to go around for the entire pack.

Species: BROWN BEAR Ursus Arctos

DID YOU KNOW?

The grizzly has the second slowest reproduction rate of all North American mammals, making it harder for it to rebound from threats to its survival. Females do not reach breeding maturity until they are 4 to 9 years old and generally give birth to two cubs every 3 years. Sometimes, one or three cubs may be born to a female, but two is the more common number. Males usually will not mate until they are able to compete successfully with other males for an available female.

Seasonal Activity of Bears: November

Seasonal Acitivity of Bears...

Mid-September to Mid-October:
Coho salmon still entering rivers and available. Bears are now observed feeding on fish that have spawned out and died. Fall colors are beautiful and the days are shorter. Weather can be pleasant with short duration fast moving storms passing through the area. Bears are gorgeous with their winter fur and guard hairs. Bears are spending long periods of time resting/sleeping near the rivers or on the beaches. Berries are also a very important part of their diet at this time.©

November and December:
Life slows down at Hallo Bay, bears prepare and den for the winter months. Local weather conditions predict when this happens as large winter storms now become common, lasting for many days.©
