    I don't know what it is, other than a butterfly - but I really like it - that much I know!

    That is a Milbert's Tortoiseshell (Nymphalis milberti). Lays eggs on nettles (up to 900 eggs at a time) and caterpillers feed on the nettle. Cool eh? Will over winter in leaf litter and tree crags.
