Crane Webcam 2 - New Position

We have repositioned our Webcam 2: Crane Cam. The new camera angle is to better capture the cranes.

Their nest was just past the edge of the lawn and in the Lupine, baby spruce trees and cow parsnip (white blossoms). The Cranes are usually found in the camera frame from 10-noon and again in late afternoon. One can see their trails leading into the tall vegetation adjacent to the lawn.

In some of the bird books, where it says the male crane shares nesting duties does not fit these two adults. It seems no one informed this male Crane of the information in the books as he spent all of his time creating a racket that could be heard for miles, moulting and roosting on our deck during the egg incubation period. After the chick was hatched and moving about, the male crane only then joined the female to accompany and feed the little guy full time. We have also observed them playing what might amount to be a type of hide and seek game in the tall flowers and grass with the female and chick pitted against the male.

It is a rare privilege for me to be able to observe these nesting birds in such detail of their day to day activities. We hope you enjoy viewing them, too.
